Galera, um Vangelis Papathanassiou no principinho.. antes de sair a solo e depois juntar com o Jon Anderson, o camarada tinha essa bandinha sinistra com o primo dele, Demis Roussos. Taí, enrriquecendo um pouco mais o acervo de progressivo do blog aqui, um prog grego, greco. Dos mai fino.

1972, 666 - APHRODITE’S CHILD

By the time Vangelis starts working on the third Aphrodite’s Child album his friend Argyris Koulouris joins the band after fulfilling his army duty in Greece. At the end of 1970 a conceptual album, based on the a part of the New Testament, The Apocalypse of St. John is conceived by Vangelis and Costas Ferris. The entire album takes over a year to complete, and when it is finally ready for release, the band has already split up, with all members working on solo albums…

Production problems for the album are numerous, as the band members were not on very good terms during the recording sessions. Then Mercury, the band’s record label adds to the troubles by objecting to the specific content of the album, and although Vangelis refuses to remove offending tracks (such as ‘oo’ Infinity), the album is brought back to the released issue of 80 minutes.

One single makes it off the album, “Break/Babylon” is released in November 1972, but that can not turn the album into a commercial success at the time. Today however the experimental “666″ has received widespread acknowledgement and is regarded as a classic work and milestone in progressive rock! FOR MORE.. FOLLOW THE…

Das poucas coisas que eu grado da década de 80 (fora a primeira metade com iron e metallica e o finalzinho com pixies nao sei se sobra muito mesmo nao..) esse disco é gravado com uma galera africana num astral muito bom. Pena que nao sei a história direito, e completamente incompete pra buscar isso na net, o melhor é ouvir.. numa manha de sol, de portas abertas, e com aquela breja gelada. De preferencia de frente pra areia na praia.
Depois, mais tarde, ele, hippao que é, vem fazer o mesmo com o Olodum, no disco The Rhythm of the Saints, 1990. Bom tb, sabia? Vale a pena.

1986, GRACELAND - PAUL SIMON

The melding of South African styles and Simon’s trademark sensibility made for one of the most intriguing albums–not to mention commercial hits–of the ’80s. At once lively, thoughtful, gorgeous, and tough, Graceland acknowledges splits both in South Africa’s social fabric and in Simon’s personal life (the title track is a clear descendant of the earlier “Hearts and Bones,” a song about the singer-songwriter’s brief marriage to Carrie Fisher). Terrivelmente copiado do sitezinho mais mestre da argentina, som BEM novaiorquino, diferente de quase tudo oq eu já ouvi, só do nome que eu não gosto:

Con salida oficial proyectada para el 8 de julio, se acaba de filtrar el (a que no adivinan) tercer LP del dúo electro-guitarrero más pateaculos de Brooklyn, y de la historia también. Sí señor, nos declaramos culpables, somos fanáticos cebados, pero cómo no serlo si Ratatat lo hizo de nuevo.
¿Qué puedo decir sobre esta banda que no haya dicho antes, en la reseña de 9 Beats o en la de Classics que seguramente reciclaremos pronto? Creo que nada. Así que me limito a insistir con que tienen un sonido no sólo único, sino también increíble. Y aunque andar repitiendo lo que ya dije no sea muy divertido o ingenioso, es lo justo: Evan y Mike (sí, es como si fueran mis amigotes) no defraudan ni un poco. Todo lo contrario, lustran tanto la chapa de grosos que ya ostentan por cada uno de sus trabajos anteriores, que los demás giles nos podemos ver reflejados para explotarnos los granitos.Ideal para escuchar con las manos detrás de las orejas como el Topo Gigio en versión Tristelme. Man, Ashlee Simpson’s hot since her nose job…But she doesn’t touch Norah Jones in a sleazy superhero disguise.
Pela were the draw to The Delancey, but after their moving set we were told to stick around for No Jo — “Norah Jones’ new punk band,” someone explained. We didn’t know what to think. But we weren’t leaving. Seeing the Queen of Lite-FM strut up to the mic a few minutes later, slinging a guitar, sporting short shorts, fishnet stockings, an eye mask, and a blonde wig, our jaws fell. No Little Willies here: Meet El Madmo! Norah was joined by Handsome Band regular Daru Oda, also in costume. The duo was definitely cute. Definitely not punk.

There were rock elements. Tunes were slinky. Others felt like ballsy country stomps. Lyrics were juvenile and cheeky. One song was a warning to scuzzy boys to not “dare look at my derrier.” Another detailed an infatuation with a boy named Carlos who was “so awesome” that Norah was gonna “knit him a sweater.” Then there was the art-rock spoken word bit, over Doors-y texture and whispered theatrics. Totally lost us. But all in all, the playing was tight, and the girl’s got pipes. Did we mention the fishnets and short shorts?

There were some decent tunes, some deft arrangements, and three absurdly talented kids having a good time on a Friday night. But overall it was just Norah taking the piss. The set ended with no reference to No Jo’s future. Gothamist left wanting more. Yeti Don’t Dance was unimpressed. Stereogum will stick with Come Away With Me which we imagine sees a sales spike every Mother’s Day. (What, you got mom Gulag Orkestar? Your mother’s fucking cool!) But we digress. From StereoGum

The Last Shadow Puppet - The Age of Understatement

Alex Turner et Miles Kane, respectivement leaders d’Arctic Monkeys et de The Rascals, ont fondé ensemble le groupe The Last Shadow Puppet. Leur 1er album s’intitulera “The Age of Understatement” et sortira au mois d’avril. Ils devraient partir en tournée ensemble dans la foulée.
Pas d’inquiétude pour les très nombreux fans d’Arctic Monkeys et ceux (un peu moins nombreux) de The Rascals, il s’agit bien d’un “side project” et ni l’un ni l’autre n’ont l’intention d’abandonner leur premier bébé.
Alex Turner dit d’ailleurs avoir récemment enregistré de nouveaux titres avec Arctic Monkeys sans doute destinés à un maxi, en attendant le prochain album.

É, é isso ai memo que cs tão lendo, blaksjhlajbrfjgjen, disquinho de 2007 desse sujeito que eu desconheço. Posto pelos motivos a seguir:
-Me foi indicado por fonte extremamente segura.
-Conterraneos de The Knife
-Eu não compreendo absolutamente uma silaba da lingua dos caras (Scanian!!@!), o que os permite concepção de mundo e de coisas inteiramente diferente da minha e, absolutamente, aumenta as chances da coisa ser autentica (pra mim)
-Porfim, porque o clip é muito legal. E lembra Digitalism. Ve aí:

Familjen is the alias of Swedish techno/electropop artist Johan T Karlsson.
Karlsson grew up in Hässleholm, Skåne (the same town as fellow electronica producers Andreas Tilliander and Stefan Thor (Folie)), but is currently based in Stockholm. In his youth as a synthpop fan he also formed bands with Sophie Rimheden from nearby Lund[1]. Karlsson has previously produced Swedish indie band David & the Citizens.

Rita Mitsouko began performing in the early 1980s in alternative spaces such as the Pali-Kao, a squatted factory building in Belleville, Paris.

The band first achieved major popular success in 1985, with the release of the second single from their first album: “Marcia Baïla” rose to number 2 on the French record charts that summer. Philippe Gautier directed a vibrant and widely viewed music video to accompany the record. “Marcia Baïla” is an homage to Argentinian choreographer and dancer Marcia Moretto, with whom Catherine Ringer had studied and performed in the 1970s. Moretto died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 32.

Rita Mitsouko was a creative and eccentric debut album, combining elements of punk, rock, synth pop and jazz. Coupled with the band’s colorful, wild, over-the-top image, it brought Rita Mitsouko to the attention of some important anglophone listeners.

American record producer and musician Tony Visconti produced the band’s next two albums, The No Comprendo and Marc et Robert, helping to polish and perfect their sound. These two albums feature both French and English lyrics. The most successful singles from these albums were “C’est comme ça” and ‘”Andy.”

The American band Sparks collaborated with Les Rita Mitsouko on Marc et Robert. Russell Mael sings lead vocals with Catherine Ringer on three of the album’s tracks, “Singing in the Shower,” “Live in Las Vegas,” and “Hip Kit.”

Jean-Baptiste Mondino directed most of Les Rita Mitsouko’s music videos in the 1980s.

Jean-Luc Godard’s 1987 feature film Soigne ta droite incorporates documentary footage of the band’s The No Comprendo recording sessions.

In 1993, the video of “Y’a d’la haine,” from the album Système D, was awarded Clip of the Year by MTV Europe.

On Système D Catherine Ringer sings a duet, “My Love Is Bad,” with Iggy Pop. Variéty also includes a vocal duo in which Ringer is joined by guest musician Serj Tankian (from System of a Down).

Les Rita Mitsouko’s album Variéty was released in 2007 in both French and in English (Variety) versions; it was produced by Mark Plati.

Tomando a liberdade de re-postar decentemente o Móveis Colonias de Acaju (pois no post anterior o link do Badongo não funciona!) e ouvindo por repetidas vezes o disco, cheguei a conclusão que valia a pena, o som é muito bom. E deixo aqui um link óbvio, do site dos caras, que disponibilizam o disco para download, assim como um ep gravado em 2001, videozinhos e outras coisas interessantes….enfim, o link direto pra o site:
