The words Bola Sete are Portuguese for the seventh ball in the billiard game, which is the only black one. He got his nickname after being the only black man in a small group. From an early age, he was habitual at the Bohemian circles of Praça Tiradentes, Rio, where musicians met. At 17, he joined composer Henricão’s group, which was going to Marília for an eight-month season. Returning to Rio, he played at every available venue in Campinas SP and Niterói RJ. In 1945, Rio’s Rádio Transmissora instituted a violão (acoustic guitar) contest, in which he was the winner. He continued to play through Minas Gerais and Rio. At last, he was hired contractually by Rádio Transmissora and he worked in the famous Trem da Alegria show for three years at the João Caetano Theater with Lamartine Babo, Iara Sales, and Héber de Bôscoli.
At the end of the ’40s, he formed his own group, Bola Sete e seu Conjunto. In that time, Dolores Durán, who went on to be a famous singer and composer, was a crooner at the Béguin nightclub and once invited, became the group’s singer at the Drink and Vogue nightclubs. In 1952, he went to Italy and played in several clubs and hotels until 1954. In that year, he returned to Brazil and formed an orchestra, with which he toured through Argentina, Uruguay, and Spain. In 1955, he toured again, this time through Lima, Peru, and Santiago do Chile. In 1959, he moved to the U.S. and in 1962, was hired directly by the general manager of Sheraton Hotels to play in the several units of that chain. In 1960, the label Sinter, which had already recorded several cuts with him, released the LP Bola Sete. He had also recorded for Odeon, which released at the same time Bola Sete e Quatro Trombones with his own compositions and Gershwin standards. More

depois de 1 século sem entrar no meu hotmail, por acaso hoje resolvi e me deparei com um email (provavelmente o único que prestava por lá) da nossa amiga Fê, cujo assunto era: “Tô Feliz demais!!!”…
abri e me deparei com a boa notícia de que uma das festas mais top – e que foi assunto pra horas a poucos dias atrás no buteco – que já tinha rolado estava de volta: BH Music Station (para os antigos – Carlsberg Music Station).
shows: Chico Amaral, Nação Zumbi, Tom Zé, Móveis Coloniais, e mais uma pá de coisas…
e o melhor: a parte mais ducaralho da parada, de ficar pulando de estação em estação, continua… top dos tops….

O problema é que Vilcabamba carrega em si uma contradição. Apesar de viverem 120 anos e de não ficarem doentes, a conduta de seu povo está distante de ser regrada e a preocupação com a saúde passa longe de suas roças, puros e chamicos. O chamico é uma planta tóxica e alucinógena, também chamada de erva-do-diabo, que antigamente era usada por xamãs e indicada para acalmar dores fortes, como a do parto.
“Seus primeiros efeitos podem ser comparados com os da maconha; depois de algumas tragadas, somam-se os da cocaína”, explica Coler. “Traz alucinações, pensamentos fantásticos, perda de memória, excitação e fúria.” Em Vilcabamba, virou hábito diário.
“Aos amantes da virtude é insuportável que os vilcabambenses vivam mais tempo e em melhores condições que os que não têm vícios. Parece injusto”, afirma Coler. “Nada do que eles fazem é recomendável.” … folha

Queria postar alguma coisa do cara já há algum tempo, colocando a trilha aí embaixo, acabei lembrando de sua existência (apesar dele não existir mais, morreu em 2003 aos 34 anos!), então vai ai o primeiro disco dele, de 95. Basicamente o som tem bastante influência de folk e rock……

A trilha me pareceu bem interessante, já o filme é bem do estilo Gus Van Sant, em alguns momentos lembra muito o “Last Days”, porém perde pra este no quesito “finalização da trama”, se é que me entendem, portanto não indico o filme, prefiro me ater a trilha, que vai do jazz à música clássica, passando por punk rock e música italiana……..

Itamar e Isca ao vivo em 1983 – Vanguarda Paulistana – Itamar: cantor, compositor, poeta e pessoa maravilhosa, Gigante: baterista com o melhor sólo de buchecha, um dos caras mais simpáticos que já conheci (outro grande músico que se foi recentemente), Paulo Lepetit: tio Paulinho , pai da Ni, no baixo. Ai ai…saudades.
